DESCRIPTION:In the first part of the proposed presentation\, Prof. Dr. Kris
ztina Karsai will introduce DIGICRIMJUS\, an EU supported higher education
strategic partnership on Digitalisation and Criminal Law. This partnersh
ip was formed by three renowned European universities (University of Szege
 d - Hungary\, University of Konstanz – Germany\, University of Istanbul
 – Turkey) and focuses on the new challenges for teaching\, researching a
nd practicing criminal law in the digital age. Digicrimjus is designed aro
und four cornerstones: digitalization - criminal law & justice - legal com
parison – teaching & learning. In this framework members of the cohort a
re not only focusing on traditional questions of criminal law (e.g.\, crim
inal responsibility in cases where AI has been applied)\, but also on othe
r issues in the criminal justice system (such as investigating cybercrime
or online visiting hours in prisons). The results of the three years resea
rch project (2020/21-2023/24) will be made widely available in the form of
comprehensive study and training materials designed for future lawyers an
d experienced professionals. \n\nIn the second part\, dr. András Lichtens
tein will share his methodological experiences and good practices on teach
ing criminal law remotely and digitally during the current pandemic situat
ion. He will introduce CLaER\, an online „Criminal Law Escape Room” re
cently developed at the University of Szeged specifically for advanced law
students majoring in criminal law and future legal professionals in the f
ield of criminal justice. This digital learning material is designed to mi
mic in-person simulations and moots in the digital space using gamificatio
n methods. Apart from the teachers’ perspective\, the presentation will
also reflect on the students’ experiences based on their feedback and it
s evaluation. The two parts are closely related\, as such methods are plan
ned to be used in DIGICRIMJUS as well.\n\nIn their closing remarks\, the p
resenters – both experts in digital training – will draw the conclusio
ns of their recent experiences and share some of their future project plan
 s.
